Strategy: Create New Membership Opportunities and Ways to Interact with the UPA
There is a sizable gap between the number of people who are currently members of the UPA, and those who have played or are playing the sport. The two largest potential membership opportunities outside the traditional growth vehicles (Championship events and League affiliation) are parents and alumni. Research was conducted among both groups to determine what might be the best ways to enhance their involvement in the UPA community.
Tactic: Create new membership levels and identify ways to engage parents and former members. A non-playing membership level will be created. Alumni reunion/Hall of Fame activities will be implemented at Club Championships every five years. A Parents group will be formed to provide information and enhance the event experience for parents of current athletes. Opportunities to involve alumni as coaches and sponsors in support of college and youth programs will be implemented.
Tactic: Modify membership terms to serve a broader constituency and improve current membership services. Return to non-calendar year membership cycle will be explored as well as early-bird renewal discounts, multi-year memberships.
Tactic: Advertise offerings and aggressively pursue potential and former members. Create and provide access to alumni database, develop electronic only subscription.
Tactic: Explore non-member donor relationships. A task force will be created to explore opportunities with alumni, corporations, government entities when and if a capital campaign were to occur.
